About Us
Up one levelWhat is PARC?
The Pacific Asia Resource Center (PARC) aims to create a society where people of the "North" and the "South" can live with equality and harmony. We believe that changes achieved by individuals will help bring about change in Japanese society as a whole-as well as help achieve a more just and balanced “North-South” relationship. Our aim is to act as an intermediary for an ever-expanding network that will promote liaisons among people working from different corners of the world, encourage mutual empowerment, and continually-serve to broaden the scope of our own ideas and vision.
Our Programs
Our programs include educational programs such as publication of magazines, production of audio visulas, the Freedom School and also cover research seminars on various social justice-themed issues, policy proposals and advocacy to the governments, and international organizations, and networking with like-minded organizations and individuals around the world to share information and work collaborately.
Fair Trade Coffee
PARC started a project to support coffee producers in the organization of cooperatives of Maubessi, Ainaro, East Timor. We cooperated with 36 families in the first year, and six tons of coffee beans were exported to Japan at fair trade prices. In 2006, we expanded the area of the project to cover six communities in Maubessi, including a total of about 200 families. Café Rai Timor, produced without any agricultural chemicals, is sold in Japan as a fair trade coffee and is favorably received for its flavor. From April 1, 2008, PARC Inter-people's Cooperation, PARCIC, was established as an independent organization to take a full role of conducting the support projects in East Timor in an alliance with PARC.
Field Information
PARC encourages and supports independence and self-reliance of people around the world. Currently, we work for community support projects in East Timor and Sri Lanka. From April 1, 2008, establishing a new organization, PARC Inter-people's Cooperation, PARCIC, will take a full role of conducting the community support projects for Sri Lanka, and East Timor in an alliance with PARC.
